Neighborhood Spotlight: Little Bohemia

 

Little Bohemia is a historic in Omaha Nebraska. Originally settled by Czech immigrants. Spanning from south 10th street on the east to south 16th street on the west Pierce street on the north and Martha street on the south this Just south of downtown Omaha and directly west of Little Italy. Little Bohemia was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. “This area is undergoing a resurgence, and there are people who want to make sure historic preservation is a part of this neighborhood’s future to help it retain key aspects of its rich history,” said David Calease of History Nebraska’s State Historic Preservation Office.

Prague Hotel

Built in 1894, a three-story building with eye catching red brick exterior. The Prague Hotel was originally was a hotel with 25 rooms, and has now been converted into amazing historical apartments.

Bohemian Café

Established in 1924 the café is right next to the Prague hotel. This family owned café sadly closed in 2016, but you can still stop by and see the gorgeous exterior design. From the roof tiles, the brick exterior and the bright colored paintings on the side of the building you won’t be able to miss the Bohemian café. (1406 south 13th street)


Jan Hus Presbyterian Church

Another amazing location to visit while in the neighborhood is the Jan Hus Presbyterian Church. The oldest Czech Presbyterian congregation in the US, founded in 1877 and the church opened its doors in 1888.
