Well last week’s trip was fun! Where are we headed to next? Australia! Before we get into this beautiful and unusual home, let’s go over some fast facts about Australia:

  1. The Australian Alps get more snow than the Swiss Alps.

  2. 90% of Australians live on the coast.

  3. Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world.

  4. The Great Barrier Reef system is the pride and joy of Australia. It is the largest eco system in the world.

  5. 80% of the animals in Australia are unique to themselves only.

  6. Population: Over 25 million.

  7. It is ranked as the driest, flattest and oldest inhabited continent

  8. Landmass of 7,617,930 sq kilometers

  9. Climate is significantly influenced by ocean currents. Northern part of the country has a tropical like climate. The southwestern part of the country has a mediterranean like climate, the southeast ranges from oceanic to a humid climate and the inner mainland is typically desert like.

Now that you know a little but more about Australia, this home is known as The Pole House. Built by F2 Architecture, this house overlooks the Great Ocean Road in Australia. The area that the home was a challenge due to the high sloping hills. The architects came up with a genius solution. They built a concrete platform on a 13 meter high pylon and well, put the house on top! To get to the house, they had to build a narrow concrete bridge to it. Wow!
